The Enchantment Permit Area (AKA The Enchantments) is known for three things: it’s beauty, it’s sociable goats, and for being one of Washington State’s all-around best hikes. If you feel like visiting this wonderland this year, anytime between June 15th and October 15th, then you’d better get your application in for a permit. The lottery opens today, that’s right, lottery. Due to the extreme popularity of The Enchantments not everyone can be guaranteed an overnight permit these days. If you’re planning a day hike to the area don’t sweat it, you only need a permit for camping, but be advised, this is an 18 mile hike so if you want to make it the whole way and see everything this place has to offer then trust me, you’ll want to stay at least three days.
Here’s the deal. Get your
application in today, the powers that be will revue it then place it in the lottery. Check back on Recreation.govs Enchantments page on March 31st to see if you managed to get lucky. Simple. You’ll be hanging with goats in no time.
Here’s a tip though; before going to the application page take a look at the permit tool on the left side of the Recreation.gov Enchantment page. It will help you figure out just what type of permit you’ll need.
Don’t forget, the window to get your application in ends March 2nd!
Best of luck.
A special thanks to Luke Hopkins for the great photos.
